GTS Green Technology Solutions GmbH manufactures and distributes filtration systems for drinking water installations, thereby ensuring water hygiene and safety. GTS monitors all key parameters remotely. This enables the company to take immediate action should any irregularities be detected, contrary to expectations. For data transmission, Carsten Wermter, Managing Director of GTS, relies on cellular networks and WhereverSIM’s M2M SIM cards.

“Our filtration systems are installed in a wide variety of locations. Theoretically, that could be anywhere, so it was important for us to find a solution that reliably covers as many cellular networks as possible,” Wermter explains, describing the original problem. “That’s exactly what we found with WhereverSIM. We never know in advance which provider offers the strongest signal locally. Instead of using multiple SIM cards from different network providers, we now have one SIM for all networks. That makes things a lot easier.” Thanks to WhereverSIM, the modem can always connect to the strongest available network on-site and automatically switches to it if a stronger network is detected than the one currently connected to. Wermter has not experienced any connection drops since implementing WhereverSIM.
However, the M2M SIM cards aren’t just used for data transmission from the device to the system; they also enable communication with the end device. “Each device receives a static IP address within a private network via its M2M SIM, allowing us to access it via VPN. The SIM cards are configured so that only our servers can access the transmitted data or the end device.” This bidirectional communication is particularly helpful when it comes to configuring the filtration systems. Changes can be easily applied to the systems via the online portal, while the impact of program changes on data consumption can be tracked in real time within the online portal. If necessary, the GTS team can intervene immediately and make optimizations.
