Unlike consumer SIM cards from network operators, our M2M SIM cards are not tied to a specific mobile network. Instead, they enable IoT devices to access all available mobile networks at their respective locations via national roaming. Since our M2M SIMs are set to unmanaged roaming by default, they allow devices to connect to the strongest mobile network at their location rather than to that of a preferred carrier.
Worldwide, devices that meet the minimum technical requirements can connect to over 485 mobile networks using our M2M SIM card. In Germany, our M2M SIM cards support all mobile networks operated by the three carriers—Telekom, Vodafone, and o2—with a single plan.
The 5G network is currently available across approximately 95 percent of Germany’s territory. According to the Federal Network Agency, Telekom’s coverage stands at just under 89 percent, while Vodafone and Telefónica (O₂) each reach about 75 to 76 percent. Network operators are increasingly focusing their expansion efforts on fully standalone 5G networks (5G Standalone). As of June 2026, no network operator has provided a specific timeline for when 5G will be available nationwide.

Thanks to high data transfer rates and low latency, mobile robots, autonomous systems, and cobots can communicate in near real time. Combined with an M2M SIM card, 5G enables a reliable and flexible mobile connection—especially for robotics applications that operate outside traditional Wi-Fi networks or in changing locations.
IoT stands for “Internet of Things” and refers to the interconnection of devices, machines, and objects via the Internet. This includes both applications in the home—such as smart home devices—and connected solutions in businesses.
IIoT stands for “Industrial Internet of Things” and is a subset of the IoT. It refers to connected devices, sensors, and machines used in industrial environments—for example, in manufacturing, logistics, energy technology, or building automation.
The most important difference, therefore, lies in the scope of application: While the IoT is defined very broadly, the IIoT specifically refers to industrial applications. In these applications, the requirements are usually higher—for example, in terms of reliability, fault tolerance, data quality, and operation under demanding environmental conditions.
That depends primarily on the location. In enclosed buildings with a stable Wi-Fi infrastructure, Wi-Fi can be a good solution. However, an M2M SIM can be used as a backup should the main connection fail. That way, a connection would still be maintained even in that case. For mobile robots that move across large areas or are deployed at different locations, however, cellular networks offer significant advantages.
With an M2M SIM card, robots are not dependent on local networks and can reliably transmit data even outside the Wi-Fi range. Multi-network connectivity also ensures high connection availability.
