Unlike consumer SIM cards from network operators, our M2M SIM cards are not tied to a specific mobile network. Instead, they enable IoT devices to access all available mobile networks at their respective locations via national roaming. Since our M2M SIMs are set to unmanaged roaming by default, they allow devices to connect to the strongest mobile network at their location rather than to that of a preferred carrier.
Worldwide, devices that meet the minimum technical requirements can connect to over 485 mobile networks using our M2M SIM card. In Germany, our M2M SIM cards support all mobile networks operated by the three carriers—Telekom, Vodafone, and o2—with a single plan.
We offer our corporate customers various tariff models that are geared towards the different needs of IoT projects. In addition to classic M2M tariffs such as Pay-As-You-Go and the dynamic data pool, we also offer a unique Flex tariff. For large projects, we also offer a prepaid option on request, where each SIM card is paid for several years in advance.
Data pooling means that all activated SIM cards share a common data quota. In this tariff, it is not the consumption of an individual SIM card that counts, but the combined consumption of all active SIM cards. The advantage of this is that fluctuations in the consumption of individual SIM cards are balanced out and additional costs are only incurred if the entire data pool is exceeded. There is no throttling so that IoT devices continue to have a stable connection. With the dynamic data pool, the data pool increases with each additional active SIM card to ensure that a data pool is always large enough.
In our special Flex tariff, the active M2M SIM cards are automatically assigned to the right tariff according to their individual data consumption.
The eUICC standard SGP.32 was developed specifically for IoT applications and is being gradually adopted by manufacturers, network operators, and solution providers.
How quickly the standard becomes established depends on support across the entire IoT ecosystem. Many market participants are already working on relevant solutions, so availability is steadily increasing.
For businesses, SGP.32 offers the long-term ability to manage mobile profiles even more flexibly and efficiently throughout the entire lifecycle of an IoT device.
For all new IoT deployments where it is clear from the outset that a SIM swap will be necessary, SGP.32 is the clear recommendation. The standard eliminates lock-ins, enables easy integration of local profiles (important in countries with regulatory requirements), and allows for flexible switching between providers. Existing projects using SGP.02 or SGP.22 do not need to be replaced immediately, but should migrate to SGP.32 when upgrading hardware to avoid long-term costs and dependencies.
Our rates are also designed for higher data volumes. There is no automatic throttling after certain thresholds have been reached. The transfer speed remains constant, so that content can be reliably played back at any time.
